Happy Tech Tuesday!
Our Level II Forestry & Natural Resources students have spent the spring semester earning their prequalification for the Forest Technician credential through the NH Timber Owners Association (NHTOA).
Students completed eight online modules, two full day trainings, and many in class labs to build their knowledge of the forest industry. As their capstone project, students have been developing forestry management plans for small plots within the Newport Town Forest.
Their labs have included timber cruising, basal area calculations, forest mapping using ArcMap GIS, identifying landowner goals, and prescribing a variety of management strategies. Level II students have also participated in directional felling labs at Parlin Field Airport and tree planting at Richards Free Library.
Thank you to Harding Hill Farm, Ryan Mingarelli of RM Timber Harvesting, Bascom Maple Farm, Beaver Pond Farm, NHTOA, HHP Sawmill, and Bronnenburg Forest Services for providing valuable industry touchpoints and experiences for our students.
